Branding guide · Identity framework

The identity prism checks whether six views describe the same brand.

Kapferer's model separates brand identity into physique, personality, culture, relationship, reflection, and self-image. The useful work is the agreement between them. A sharp logo cannot repair a culture, relationship, or customer reflection that points somewhere else.

External expression Physique, relationship, and reflection show how the brand appears and who buyers see around it.
Internal meaning Personality, culture, and self-image show how the brand speaks, behaves, and helps the buyer see themselves.
System agreement The six facets should support one position instead of describing six unrelated moods.
Strategist examining one unmarked product through material, service, archive, package, and customer evidence.

Kapferer Brand Identity Prism

physique · personality · culture · relationship

Identity becomes visible through the full operating system: object, language, service, customer role, and repeated public cue.
Six specialists reviewing product, service, culture, customer, relationship, and personality evidence.
The physical box, service ritual, scarcity, customer reflection, and self-image all contribute to the identity read.
01

The six facets.

Physique The product, mark, color, shape, material, environment, or other concrete cue people can identify.
Personality The character expressed through language, pace, image choice, and repeated behavior.
Culture The values and operating beliefs that guide decisions inside the company.
Relationship The role the brand plays in the exchange: guide, host, challenger, protector, tool, club, or another clear role.
Reflection The recognizable picture of the customer shown in the brand's public world.
Self-image How the customer feels about themselves when choosing and using the brand.

Private brand work

Pressure-test the decision before buyers do.

If a name, color, mark, message, voice, or page is starting to affect sales or trust, get the public-facing decision checked before rollout makes it harder to change.

Private work Request private brand work Use this when a live brand decision needs outside pressure before launch, redesign, or sales review.
